What is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus is a common but unique problem that’s characterized by the perception of buzzing, clicking, or ringing sounds in the ears.
It isn’t a disease in itself—rather, it is a symptom of other conditions, such as a head injury, hearing loss, earwax impaction, otosclerosis (stiffening of ear bones), TMJ disorders, and several other problems. Tinnitus is usually only noticed by the affected individual, but rarely, it can produce an audible sound that can be heard by a doctor during an ear examination.
