There is no one ideal method of tinnitus treatment.
Based on the underlying cause of tinnitus, the severity of the perceived noise, and several other factors, Dr. Scotch may recommend a combination of treatments for patients at our Wesley Chapel, FL, practice. Two common forms of treatment include:
- Noise suppression – White noise may help certain patients block out unwanted sounds. There are several electronic devices that can provide continual or timed white noise, including hearing aids, masking devices, white noise machines, and tinnitus retraining tools.
- Medication – While there is no pill that can cure tinnitus, certain antidepressant medications may be able to reduce the severity and frequency of perceived ringing.
In some cases, tinnitus treatment simply involves addressing its root cause. For example, ear wax impaction can prompt tinnitus, so removing impacted wax may be all that’s necessary to reduce or eliminate perceived noise.
