WHAT DOES A VNG TEST INVOLVE?

When receiving a VNG test at Scotch Institute of ENT, you’ll sit comfortably in a dark room and wear goggles with a special camera that records eye movements. The test is divided into three main parts:

  • Ocular testing, which involves following both stationary and moving dots
  • Positional testing, which involves checking for signs of nystagmus as you turn your head and body
  • Caloric testing, which involves putting cool or warm air into each ear to check for inner ear damage

VNG testing is simple and safe. However, you may feel dizzy for a few minutes after your test. We recommend bringing a friend or family member who can drive you home afterward.
